Professor Abu El-Haj joins the podcast to discuss her recently published article with the Minnesota Law Review titled “How the Liberal First Amendment Under-Protects Democracy” which challenges the existing construction of the First Amendment and instead emphasizes its role as an underwriter of a republican form of government.

Jackie joins today's podcast to discuss her Note titled "Gruel and Unusual Punishment: Prison Punishment Diets and the Eighth Amendment." Her Note applies Eighth Amendment jurisprudence to current prison punishment diets, specially the so-called "Nutraloaf diet." Jackie's background in health and nutritional studies helps inform her analysis of such diets and their negative impacts on prisoners writ large.
