Minnesota Geological Survey M-197, Bedrock Geology of the International Falls and LittleFork 30' x 60' Quadrangles, Northern Minnesota Northern Minnesota Compiled and authored by Mark A. Jirsa, Terrence J. Boerboom and V.W. Chandler 2014 The data and results of the project analysis are presented as ArcGis Shape files that are compiled within a project entitled m197_bgmap.mxd. All of the map and plate files are included in the folder entitled m- 197 in a compressed Zip file entitled m197.zip. The zipped files can be unzipped, using WinZip or the Windows 7 extraction program, to other drives and retain their original read/write permissions. All shapefiles and rasters are registered in UTM coordinates, zone 15N, NAD83 projection. Metadata for the mxd project file and GIS files is provided in the metadata folder as Microsoft Word documents or xml files. A list of the files in the project is given below: Folder: m-197_data base_mag_rasters.gdb--Esri geodatabase containing the 1:100:000 USGS scanned base maps for the IFalls and LittleFork quads and the magnetic anomaly map for the same area.F48093A1 is referenced to the LittleFork quadrangle and F48093E1 is referenced to the International Falls quadrangle The magnetic anomaly map is the first vertical derivative of the magnetic data, reduced to pole. Geochronology_report--information on the zircon U/Pb dates obtained as part of this map. Layer_files--Arcgis lyr files used to symbolize and color the features in the mxd project file. Metadata--Word doc, pdf, and xml files that describe the data Shapefiles that are part of the mxd project file: AGElocations--locations and age obtained from zircons anti_sym_lk_erase--anticlines and synclines not concealed by lakes anti_syn_lks--anticlines and synclines shown dashed where concealed by lakes bedrock_geology--bedrock geology polygons cont_flt_lk_erase--unit contacts and faults not concealed by lakes cont_flt_lks--unit contacts and faults shown dashed where concealed by lakes cross sec lns--lines showing where cross sections shown on the Plate pdf were drawn dike_lk_erase--mafic dikes, showing normal, reversed or unknown polarization not concealed by lakes dike_lks--mafic dikes, showing normal, reversed or unknown polarization shown dashed where concealed by lakes FEATURElabels--point file providing label for major faults or mapped units foliation_lks_erase--foliation lines not concealed by lakes foliation_lks--foliation lines shown dashed where concealed by lakes IFdrillcore--point location of drill holes where core was obtained and logged in the IFalls/LittleFork quads IFquarries--point location of rock quarries in the IFalls/LittleFork quads IFstations--point location of stations where rocks were examined or sampled m197_bgmap.mxd--Esri project file. When copied to a new location, if the the folder structure is kept intact, the project should keep track of data locations, but if not, use the repair data source tool by right-clicking on the data layer name. outcrops--polygon location of outcrops, see the metadata Word document or pdf for information of the source of the outcrop data strpts_combMj--structure point file. All structure points have station numbers, but not all station numbers have structure pts studyarea--outline of the two quads combined into single polygon voyageurs park outline--polygon showing location of Voyageurs National Park Printed copies of the map can be requested from MGS Map Sales--612-627-4782
