Overview of the data (abstract): The data are from a quantitative survey of the implementation of a state anti-bullying law in schools in the state of Maine. The online survey targeted staff at all public school districts in the state and was administered from April 2018 through December 2018. The survey responses are available in separate datasets, based on staff type: District Administrator, School Administrator, Counselor, Teacher V1, and Teacher V2. We randomized teachers to survey version 1 or 2. Both teacher survey versions were administered concurrently, with each teacher receiving only one version. To lower response burden, several variables were unique to each version. -------------------------- SHARING/ACCESS INFORMATION -------------------------- 1. Relationship between files: All files contain a district ID (‘Random_SAU_ID’) specific to our study, which can be used to group responses by district among all files. In addition, observations in the school administrator, school counselor, and school teacher datasets can be grouped by school using the ‘Random_School_ID’ variable. -------------------------- METHODOLOGICAL INFORMATION -------------------------- 1. Description of methods used for collection/generation of data: The Maine Department of Education (DOE)’s list of public school personnel was used for distribution of the survey to all public school districts in the state. The survey targeted school-level staff involved directly in identifying, supporting, and responding to bullying incidents (i.e., administrators, teachers, and counselors). Administrators were identified to be the individuals primarily responsible for carrying out their school’s or district’s anti-bullying law. Administrators and counselors were actively recruited to participate through email invitation, newsletters, letters of support from professional organizations, and meetings. Teachers were recruited only through email invitation. In collaboration with the DOE, we administered the online implementation survey from April 2018 through December 2018. The survey was administered through Qualtrics software and responses were tracked using a production database in Microsoft Access. 2. Methods for processing the data: Names and email addresses were removed from all datasets. Only one survey per participant per staff type was retained per district. For example, if a school counselor returned duplicate surveys for the same district, the survey with the highest progress (number of questions answered) was retained. If the progress was the same among duplicated surveys then the survey with the earliest completion date was retained. Distributions of all variables in datasets were calculated to determine if any values did not fall within the intended ranges. In order to protect the identity of several participants, the following variables were removed from the datasets. For access to the full dataset, contact the principle investigator. District admin - remove: Q30 Tenure in current position: Q31 Please indicate your gender/sex: Q32 Please indicate your Race/Ethnicity: - Selected Choice Q33 Please indicate your age: School admin - remove: Q30 Tenure in current position: Q31 Please indicate your gender/sex: Q32 Please indicate your Race/Ethnicity: - Selected Choice Q33 Please indicate your age: Counselor - remove: Q32 Please indicate your Race/Ethnicity: - Selected Choice Teacher v1 - remove: Q32 Please indicate your Race/Ethnicity: - Selected Choice Teacher v2 - remove: Q32 Please indicate your Race/Ethnicity: - Selected Choice 3.
