PRELIMINARY QUATERNARY STRATIGRAPHY AND SAND DISTRIBUTION MODELS OF THE SOUTHEAST ARROWHEAD AREA, LAKE AND ST. LOUIS COUNTIES, NORTHEASTERN MINNESOTA By Kaleb G. Wagner, Jennifer M. McDonald and Jacqueline Hamilton Minnesota Geological Survey University of Minnesota 2019 Published as part of the OPEN FILE REPORT OFR-2016-04, this PDF and digital data provide information about the Quaternary stratigraphy and sand resources/aquifers in the southeast Arrowhead area of Lake and St. Louis Counties, northeastern Minnesota. The files are contained in a Windows Zip file ORF2016-04_Qstrat_SE.zip NOTE: These preliminary data and interpretations have not been fully reviewed to conform with MGS editorial standards. Included in zip file is a PDF containing eight cross sections across the study area, a list and discription of surface and subsurface units between the land surface and bedrock surface and maps showing the distribution of sands at the land surface and in the subsurface across the area. Also included is a figure showing the vertical distribution of sands where one or more sands are overlain by others. Some of these may be separated by glacial tills. Also included is an ESRI ArcGis Pro map package (sand_model_phase2_2019_seah.mmpk) that contains the digital data resulting from the sand distribution model. In the folder is a list of units in stratigraphic order from the land surface. In a geodatabase are the stratigraphy lines (stratall_seah) [merged by unit for use with data driven pages]) for each of the 123 cross section lines along with the wells and qdi drillholes (xsec-stratlines by cross section with well sticks by cross section) within 0.5 miles of each line, an Illustrator file containing the 8 cross sections shown on the PDF map plate, and the PDF map plate, with explanatory material and additional geologic information. Topographic profiles for bedrock and landsurface are also in the gdb as grouped lines. All digital data uses the coordinate system UTM, NAD83, zone 15N
