Date: 11/05/10 [[BR]] Location: Tri Valley [[BR]] Aircraft: Loki [[BR]] Pilot: Arion Mangio, Garrison Hoe [[BR]] Flights: 8 Loki [[BR]] [source:/trunk/FlightData/2010_11_05 Link to Flight Data] Garrison, Arion, and myself took Loki to UMORE Park today. Weather was tolerable, sunny, NW winds at 7-9 MPH, temps around 40F. Keeping fingers warm is a challenge. Arion's "transmitter glove" worked well- I wish we had one for the laptop! The objectives for the deployment were: 1. Test the FDI filter with LQR+MRAC. 2. Get repeat flights on the FDI-LQR/Baseline programs. 3. Scout condition of flying sites at TriValley/Jensen. We completed 8 flights, meeting all objectives. We flew all 3 FDI programs on the first 5 flights, and decided to try the lateral-directional PID programs since we had time and batteries remaining. They were finishing tearing up the runway at TriValley when we arrived. There is plenty of room in the grass north of the runway to park and fly, so this is where we operated from. One Tri Valley member came and did one brief flight. No one from the U came by. This will be an ok flying site until heavy snowcover. Jensen was in a similar state- two hangars remain, other have been demolished. Gravel driveway and grass strip will still be usable until snow cover. The USB to serial connection on my laptop stopped working, so we had no GCS. My USB mouse even quite working, but the USB seems to be working fine now. Since we didn't have any indication of GPS lock, we checked the data post-flight, and ended up repeating a few flights. Loki Flight 18: FDI-LQR+MRAC; GPS lock halfway through flight. Loki Flight 19: FDI-LQR+MRAC; repeat flight 18, good flight. Loki Flight 20: FDI-LQR; GPS lock partway through flight. Loki Flight 21: FDI-LQR; repeat flight 20, good flight. Loki Flight 22: FDI-Baseline; big pressure spike at end of flight. Loki Flight 23: PID-Aileron & Rudder; rudder seemed to work ok, but aileron inputs caused spiral divergence. Large roll transient when controller resumes control after wavetrain. Terminated after two trials Loki Flight 24: PID-Rudder; initially ok, but lack of roll inputs seemed to lead to spiral divergence. Large roll transient when controller resumes control after wavetrain. Terminated after two trials Loki Flight 25: PID-Elevator; good performance, 5 runs to completion. Back to FlightReports
