Minnesota Geological Survey County Atlas Series C-32, part A Sherburne County, Minnesota Scale 1:100,000, 1:300,000 Barbara A. Lusardi, Project Manager 2013 Digital products ------------------------------------------------------------------------ All digital data for the Sherburne County Geologic Atlas is provided in the zip file C32_cd.zip. The title refers to the CD/DVD available from the MGS where the data is available as shapefiles and ESRI grids and formated into an ArcGis project. The ArcGis projects are also available within the zip file. If you would prefer to have the digital data on DVD, contact our Map Sales Department at (612) 627-4780, ext. 238. Freeware versions of software to extract the zipped files are readily available for almost any platform (pc, Unix, Mac,..) for download via the web or as part of the Operating System. All shapefiles are registered in UTM coordinates, Zone 15N, NAD83 projection. Metadata for the GIS files is provided in the metadata folder as xml documents and is included in the ArcGis metadata catalog system. The metadata for the Quaternary stratigraphy and Sand models is provided as one Word doc and pdf file. The published paper maps included in the geologic atlas can be viewed as pdf versions of the plates (see directory/folder: plate_pdfs): pl1_db.pdf = data-base plate pl2_bg.pdf = Bedrock geology plate pl3_sg.pdf = Quaternary (surficial) geology plate pl4_qstrat.pdf = glacial geology cross sections plate pl5_snddst_bt_dt.pdf = sand distribution model and bedrock topography and depth to bedrock plate C32_cd.zip--Arcmap 10 mxd, shapefiles, and ESRI Grids, illustrating the geology of Sherburne County. The C32cgaSherburne.mxd will run under 10.0, but not older versions, shapefiles can be loaded into any other version. Also included in the C32_cd.zip is a C32cgaSherburne.pmf file. This file is for the ESRI program ArcReader which can be downloaded freely from the esri.com web site (get the latest version). This will allow anyone without an ESRI GIS license to view the project data and maps, the limitation is that independent data cannot be added to the ArcReader project. Files in the project are listed in the Introduction to GIS or read the intro1st.pdf in the figures folder. The C32_cd folder is obtained by downloading and unzipping the C32_cd.zip file to the root level of the selected drive. The pdf maps should be viewed using Acrobat Reader 5.0 or higher for best results. If necessary, download the files as binary, not ASCII. They may also view better if downloaded to the local drive and then view with a PDF reader rather than trying to view them inside a browser. If you would like paper copies of the geologic plates; contact the MGS Map Sales office at 612-627-4780, ex. 238 and specify publication "County Atlas Series C-32, part A", or the County geologic atlas for Sherburne County.
