Filename: Phenology_2014 Short description: This file contains leaf and flower phenology data from 59 plants during fall 2014. B. Filename: Phenology_2015 Short description: This file contains leaf, flower and fruit phenology data from 155 plants during 2015. C. Filename: Phenology_2015 Short description: This file contains leaf and flower phenology data from 149 plants during spring 2015. 2. Relationship between files: All of these files are data collected during a three year project at the Arnold Arboretum investigating seasonal changes in phenology, organ growth and vascularture. 3. Additional related data collected that was not included in the current data package: None 4. Are there multiple versions of the dataset? No -------------------------- METHODOLOGICAL INFORMATION -------------------------- 1. Description of methods used for collection/generation of data: Plants were observed weekly for leaf out (when leaf is open, reflexed and the petiole visible), flowering (petals open and anthers producing pollen), mature fruit (either dry and dehiscent or soft and ripe), leaf drop/senescence (leaves turned colors or dropped). Date when each phenophase was first observed was recorded (e.g., "first flower") and also the date when the phenophase was 75% past. The percent of each plant at each stage was recorded. If the plant was not monitored for a specific measurements, it was noted as "NA" and "None" means that phenophase was not visible (e.g., no flowers on the plant that year). See associated publication for more information. 2. Methods for processing the data: For the data on leaf expansion, six leaves were collected per plant at the time of >75% floral senescence and their area determined digitally using a flatbed scanner. At the end of the summer, six leaves were collected again from the same plant and scanned. The percent expansion was determined as the ratio of the first leaf area and the second. 3. Instrument- or software-specific information needed to interpret the data: NA 4. Standards and calibration information, if appropriate: NA 5. Environmental/experimental conditions: NA 6. Describe any quality-assurance procedures performed on the data: The same observers visited the plants each week to guarentee consistently in the dataset. 7.
