Final leaf only refers to the leaves remaining on the plant at the end of the study.
Total leaf refers to the leaves remaining on the plant at the end of the study plus the total number of leaves lost.

RGR analyses used data from the first and last measurements (time 1 and 3).  

Final leaf number used in computing leaf RGR was found by adding the total number of leaves lost with the final number of leaves remaining on the plant. Lost leaves were included because final leaf number for some seedlings was smaller than initial leaf number, producing negative RGRs.
