Minnesota Geological Survey County Atlas Series C-21, part A Carver County, Minnesota Scale 1:100,000, 1:200,000 Emily J. Bauer, Project Manager March 2009 Digital products ------------------------------------------------------------------------ All digital data for the Carver County Geologic Atlas is provided in the zip file C21_cd.zip. The title refers to the CD/DVD available from MGS where the data if formated into ArcGis projects. However, the projects are available within the zip file as well. If you would prefer to have the digital data on DVD, contact our Map Sales Department at (612) 627-4780, ext. 238. A supplement to the Atlas products, not included with the printed map files is the Open-File Report 09-03 which details geophysical studies of depth to basement in Carver County and surrounding areas using available gravity and magnetic data in Minnesota. Freeware versions of software to extract the zipped files are readily available for almost any platform (pc, Unix, Mac,..) for download via the web. All shapefiles are registered in UTM coordinates, zone 15N, NAD83 projection. Metadata for the GIS files is provided in the metadata folder as Microsoft Word documents or xml files. The published paper maps included in the geologic atlas can be viewed as pdf versions of the plates (see directory plate_pdfs): pl1_db.pdf = data-base map pl2_bg.pdf = bedrock geology map pl3_sg.pdf = Quaternary (surficial) geology map pl4_qstrat_snddsn.pdf = cross sections, sand distribution model maps pl5_bt_dt_me.pdf = bedrock topography, depth to bedrock and mineral endowment map C21.zip--[382Mb] Arcmap 9.3 mxd and shapefiles and ArcGIS Grids, illustrating the geology of Carver County. The c21carvercga.mxd will not run under older versions of Arcmap, but the shapefiles can be loaded into any other version. Also included in the C-21.zip is a c21carvercga.pmf file. This file is for the ESRI program ArcReader which can be downloaded freely from the esri.com web site. This will allow anyone to view the project data and maps, the limitation is that independent data cannot be added to the ArcReader project. An ArcScene project, C21carver_3d.sxd is also included for those with an ArcScene license. The pdf maps should be viewed using Acrobat Reader 5.0 or higher for best results. If necessary, download the files in binary, not ASCII. If you would like paper copies of the geologic plates; contact the MGS Map Sales office at 612-627-4780, ex. 238 and specify publication "County Atlas Series C- 21, part A", or County geologic atlas of Carver County.
