The Minnesota Geological Survey (MGS) is a research center of the University’s Newton Horace Winchell School of Earth Sciences. Established in 1872, the MGS’ mission is to conduct basic and applied earth science research with an exclusive focus on Minnesota. The MGS shares research information with the public through its publications and via educational and service activities. Learn more about the MGS at http://www.geo.umn.edu/mgs.
The "miscellaneous maps" series, 1966 - 2006, represents a variety of Minnesota’s geological features and regions, including simple bouguer maps, lineament maps, and maps of surficial and bedrock geology.
The maps in this series are available as Adobe PDF files. The PDF file must be viewed with Acrobat Reader 3.0 or, in the case of newer files, with Acrobat Reader 4.0. Some of the map plates (which contain both map and text) are very large; only small portions are clearly viewable on screen at any one time. Some of the maps also are available as GIS coverages in ArcInfo export (e00) format. The e00 files (map data only, no text or plates) may be in DOS and UNIX formats; a description of the content of each e00 file is available. It is possible to import the e00 files into programs such as ArcView.
