The University-wide commencement ceremony programs for the Twin Cities campus (1873 to 1991) include alphabetical lists of candidates for degrees, organized by college, receiving associate’s, bachelor’s, master’s, doctoral, and professional degrees. Before 1920, one ceremony was held annually, and beginning in 1920, multiple ceremonies were held each year. Entries for master’s and doctoral degrees include thesis and dissertation titles.

The college and school commencement ceremony programs for the Twin Cities campus may include lists of candidates for degrees, commencement speaker biographical statements, and award and scholarship winner descriptions.

Commencement programs are a good source for information about commencement speakers. And some programs include sections on University history, academic costume, college or program traditions, etc.

The Registers of PhD Degrees (1888 to 1986) include lists of University doctoral degree recipients organized by academic department. Each volume also includes an index of names.
