The results of some experiments on turbulenoe management using
combinations of honeycombs of different lengths and coarse and fine
screens, oarried out in highly nonuniform and turbulent flows
generated in a 127-mm plexiglas pipe by an upstream blower and
diffuser, are presented. The performance of the devices as single
manipulators and in combination was evaluated through hot-wire
measurements of the mean and rms .values of the longitudinal
velocities over the pipe cross section. The results show that
relati vely short honeycombs, preceded by a coarse screen and
followed by one or more fine screens, oan be used for effective
management of highly nonuniform and turbulent flows.
