Title: University Information Assets: Re-Defining the University Archives in a Digital Age

Authors: University of Minnesota: President's Emerging Leaders Program

Abstract: In fall 2004, four members of the President's Emerging Leaders (PEL) 2004-05 cohort
undertook a project to help determine the issues and considerations that should help guide the
University Archives in developing policies and practices with respect to digital information
created within the University and stored and shared on desktop computers. A series of
interviews was conducted in spring 2005 with representative University administrators, faculty
and staff that provided most of the information used by the PEL group to identify key themes
and major issues surrounding current archiving practices, attitudes and beliefs about archiving,
and perceptions of the value of archival information. Information gleaned in the interviews was
also used to formulate several salient recommendations for consideration by the University
Librarian and Archives staff.

Authors: University of Minnesota: President's Emerging Leaders Program

Abstract: Our task was to define the culture of the University as it stands today, in terms of identifying its norms, values, beliefs, strengths, and weaknesses, as well as defining the culture that supports the University's aspirations to be among the top three public research universities in the world.

Title: Staff Engagement in the University Community

Authors: University of Minnesota: President's Emerging Leaders Program

Abstract: Staff (P&A, civil service, and bargaining unit) represent a large proportion of our University community, and have been major contributors to COPE. More work needs to be done to assess staff attitudes toward public engagement, best practices that might exist around staff engagement, and recommendations to increase staff engagement both inside and outside the University.

Positioning Rochester: Identifying Elements That Will Influence and Impact the Positioning of the University of Minnesota-Rochester and Southeastern Minnesota

Title: Positioning Rochester: Identifying Elements That Will Influence and Impact the Positioning of the University of Minnesota-Rochester and Southeastern Minnesota

Authors: University of Minnesota: President's Emerging Leaders Program

Abstract: Based on focus group and interview results, it is clear UMR currently lacks a cohesive identity. The essence and elements are present—a non-traditional institution with multifaceted partnerships, concentrated expertise in the biomedical and technology fields, targeted opportunities that will impact Minnesota and resonate with citizens, community engagement, and cutting-edge research—but UMR needs to crystallize these elements into a whole. The slate is relatively clean when this is coupled with ample room for building awareness and familiarity for UMR’s existence, programs, and purpose. As a result, UMR is in a unique position to create the identity it envisions for its future.

Abstract: This project is to cast some light on what the University is actually doing with respect to Performance Management and Career Mobility in an attempt to change the culture of recruitment, retention, development, assessment, and management of University of Minnesota employees and align it with the University's mission to be conscious of and responsive to the needs of the many communities it is committed to serving (e.g. Performance Management) and to inspire, set high expectations for, and empower individuals within its community (e.g. Career Mobility).
